Precious Blueberries

Since I posted the photos of the positive pregnancy test, quite a bit has happened.  I had my pregnancy and due date verified.  My due date is December 30th, 2011, and I have just entered week 7 of my first trimester.  I’ve done a lot of financial stuff, but no actual check ups yet.  My first prenatal appointment has been set for May 23rd.  I have to admit, I am very very nervous.  I have what you would call White Coat Syndrome.  Any type of doctor-situation, even if it’s for someone else and I’m just with them, I get very nervous.  Anyways, you can click on the link if you want to find out more about that.  I wanna talk about MY BABY!  It still feels weird saying that.  I honestly feel like I’m pretending.

How does your baby grow? Pretty fast, actually. At 7 weeks pregnant, your baby’s length is approximately a quarter of an inch — the size of a blueberry. Sounds pretty tiny still?  Consider this for a little perspective: Your baby is 10,000 times bigger now than it was at conception a month ago.

The biggest fetal growth this week is your baby’s head (the better to store all those smarts in), with new brain cells being generated at the rate of 100 cells per minute. How’s that for a budding genius?

And talking about buds, your baby is going out on a limb this week as his or her arm and leg buds begin to sprout and grow longer (and stronger), dividing into hand, arm, and shoulder segments — and leg, knee, and foot segments (though the limb buds look more like paddles than hands or feet at this early stage).

Also forming this week are your baby’s mouth and tongue. And although your embryo is just one month old, it’s already gone through three sets of kidneys. The ones in place now are the permanent set and are poised to begin their important work of waste management. In about a week, your baby will start producing urine. Lucky for you, there’s no need for diapers (yet). As your baby matures inside you, much of that urine will be excreted into the amniotic fluid, swallowed again by your baby, and then excreted again in a continuous cycle.

A list of common symptoms during the first trimester of pregnancy.  And x in the [] means I have/am experiencing this symptom.

[x]tender/sore breasts
[x]mood swings
[x]morning sickness
[x] headaches
[]food aversions
[x]food cravings
[x] heightened sense of smell
[x]missed period
[x]frequent urination

If you couldn’t tell, I’ve pretty much driven full force into the symptoms pool of pregnancy.  For example, at this very moment, I feel like I might vomit.  I will be back in a moment….

Four minutes later:  Okay, so I didn’t puke.  But it really felt like I was going to and my tummy feels like it’s turning somersaults.

Constipation-wise:  All I will say about this is that it’s horrible and I now understand why women take certain vitams/pills/medications when they’re pregnant.  It’s horrible.

Breast tenderness/soreness:  My breasts actually just got sore/tender within the past day or two.  And man, are they sensitive.

Moodswings:  Yesterday on our way to Pizza Hut (see below for further info on THAT situation), my husband was getting a little pissy because we couldn’t find one.  I wanted Pizza Hut like crazy and we just couldn’t find one.  He was getting, and for some reason I was a happy little elf!  I was laughing and making jokes and just having a jolly good time.  But last night, I just snapped at him.  So much that he got mad at me for it (we discussed it later and all is good).  Now, I’m not sure if this is all because of the moodswings.  The snappiness could also be a result of all the nicotine cravings I am having.  I’m really REALLY trying not to smoke.  I want to be healthy for my baby and not do any more harm to it that I can control.  BUT IT’S REALLY HARD.  Oh my GOD is it hard.

Heightened sense of smell:  Perfect example, this morning when I got up, I SWEAR I kept smelling blueberry muffins.  So much so that I started craving them.  The only thing even remotely resembling a blueberry muffin in this house is the blueberry muffin mix in the pantry.  Brad insisted that he didn’t smell a thing.  Also, last night when we went to Pizza Hut, I was fine.  Until the drive home.  I literally had to roll the windows down because the smell of the pizza was making me sick.

Heartburn:  Honestly, with constipation, heartburn was one of the reasons I started wondering if I were pregnant.  I was getting heartburn constantly and then out of nowhere, I became constipated.  I have NEVER been constipated in my life.  So I took a test and lo and behold, it was positive.  😀

Well, I just wanted to update everyone on all the wackiness that is going on, but now I must (unfortunately) go to laundry.  Here’s to hoping I don’t puke all over the clean clothes!
